censorship and libel

Censorship and Libel is there to stop the media from airing and publishing innappropriate and offensive language, content and images.

Censorship: Is used mainly in television programmes before 9pm as language, scenes and images may be innappropraite for younger audiences and need to be hidden from them.
Ofcom also has control over types of censorships in different shows. An audience can complain to Ofcom and future content can be censored if needed. Censorship also blurs peoples faces etc so they can not sue the company for broadcasting their idenity without the individuals permission - also its the same concept for branding i.e if their is a mcdonalds logo in the background of a film the company can 'blur' it out.

Libel: Is used to stop individuals and companies targetting certain people and writting neggative press about them. Making up press about an individual to make money / ratings. A person or company can be taken to court and sued for Libel.
Libel is basically their to protect people from lies and slander.

In my opinion I think censorship and libel are very important matters within the media industy and is their to protect everyone. So I think it is a very good and vital part of media production.
