Tzvetan Todorovs theory of narrative:


1- state of equilibrium at outset
2- disruption of equilibrium 
3- recognition of disruption 
4- attempt of restore of equilibrium 
5- reinstatement of equilibrium 


This type of narrative can be used for many types of 'mainstream' film.


Todorov's theory is that there are five different stages/events.
